Andaman Administration Opens Sports Coaching Registration for Children Aged 9-16

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, October 24: School-going children aged between nine and 16 can register for sports coaching classes being conducted by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, across 11 sporting disciplines.

The programme aims to encourage participation in sports, nurture young talent and help children develop their sporting skills. Registration forms are available from the respective coaches at Room No. 3, Netaji Stadium, Sri Vijaya Puram, between 10 am and 5 pm on working days.

The coaching disciplines listed by the directorate are athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, cricket, cycling, football, table tennis, hockey, swimming and volleyball. The range covers individual sports, team games and activities requiring different combinations of physical fitness, coordination and tactical skills.

Parents and students interested in enrolling have been advised to collect the registration forms from the coaches responsible for the respective disciplines. The announcement does not specify a closing date for registration, class timings, fees, selection criteria or the number of places available in each sport.

The initiative provides an opportunity for schoolchildren to explore organised sporting activities and receive coaching in disciplines of their choice. Structured training can help young participants develop basic techniques, learn the rules of their sport and build the discipline needed to improve through practice.

Participation in sport can also encourage teamwork, concentration, coordination and regular physical activity. Different disciplines offer different learning experiences: team games such as football, basketball and volleyball require cooperation and communication, while sports such as athletics, cycling and swimming place particular emphasis on individual performance and physical conditioning. Chess provides an opportunity to develop strategic thinking and concentration.

The availability of multiple disciplines gives parents and students a range of options when considering participation. The most appropriate choice will depend on the child’s interests, ability, access to facilities and the coaching arrangements available.

Netaji Stadium serves as the designated point for collecting the registration forms, with applicants directed to Room No. 3 during the specified hours. Students and parents should approach the relevant coaches for the forms and any additional details required to complete registration.

The directorate has positioned the programme as part of its efforts to promote sports participation and identify young talent. Coaching at an early age can provide children with a foundation in sporting skills and help them decide whether they wish to pursue a discipline recreationally or at a competitive level.

For the islands, sustained access to coaching and suitable sporting facilities is important to supporting participation beyond occasional school competitions.

Parents are encouraged to check the registration requirements directly with the coaches before completing the process. Any additional information about schedules, equipment requirements and eligibility should be confirmed through the department rather than assumed from the general announcement.

The coaching programme offers schoolchildren aged nine to 16 an opportunity to take part in one of 11 sports. Registration forms can be collected from the respective coaches at Room No. 3, Netaji Stadium, Sri Vijaya Puram, between 10 am and 5 pm on working days.
