Sri Vijaya Puram, October 21: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration will organise a unity run, an open cycle rally and a national unity pledge on October 31 to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, with the events aimed at promoting national unity, integrity and public participation, particularly among young people.
The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs will organise the two sporting events in coordination with various departments of the administration, the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC), Zilla Parishad and other institutions. The observance commemorates the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, widely known as the Iron Man of India.
The open cycle rally will begin at 6 am from Netaji Stadium, proceed towards Corbyn’s Cove and return to the stadium. The event aims to encourage an active lifestyle and physical fitness while reinforcing the values of unity and togetherness.

The ‘Run for Unity’ will follow the same route at 6 pm, starting from Netaji Stadium and proceeding towards Corbyn’s Cove before returning to the starting point. Approximately 500 students from the Education Department and other educational institutions are expected to participate.
The department has invited students, young people and members of the public to join both events. The programme places particular emphasis on youth participation in promoting national solidarity and reinforcing the principles of unity and integrity.
As part of the observance, offices of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, SVPMC, Zilla Parishad and other participating institutions will administer the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge at 11 am. The pledge will reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding the country’s unity, integrity and security.
The three activities will form part of the administration’s observance of National Unity Day, combining public sporting events with a formal pledge across government offices and participating institutions.
The schedule provides separate opportunities for residents to participate in the morning cycle rally, the evening run and the pledge observance, with the sporting events following a common route between Netaji Stadium and Corbyn’s Cove.
The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs has called on the public to take part in the cycle rally and unity run as part of the annual commemoration.
