World Sight Day Camp in Sri Vijaya Puram Focuses on Early Detection of Vision Problems

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, October 10: An eye-screening camp in Bathubasti, Sri Vijaya Puram, screened 41 people, including elderly residents and children, as part of an initiative to promote early detection of vision problems and improve awareness of preventive eye care on World Sight Day 2026.

Port Blair Guru Ki Rasoi (PBGKR) organised the awareness and screening camp on October 8 at the Ward No. 19 Councillor’s Office in collaboration with the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) and G.B. Pant Hospital, with support from V. Vetri Velu, councillor of Ward No. 19 and Senior Vice Chairperson of the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC).

The camp provided eye screening and guidance on maintaining healthy eyesight. Participants received information on the importance of regular eye examinations, recognising eye-related problems at an early stage and seeking medical attention promptly when symptoms or vision concerns arise.

The inclusion of children and elderly people brought screening services to beneficiaries across age groups. The programme focused on encouraging timely check-ups and helping community members understand the role of preventive care in addressing potential vision problems.

Mandeep Grewal, founder and president of PBGKR, thanked the Directorate of Health Services and the doctors and medical team from G.B. Pant Hospital for supporting the initiative.

He also acknowledged Vetri Velu for providing the venue and making arrangements for the camp at Bathubasti.

PBGKR said it remained committed to extending preventive healthcare, medical awareness and screening services to local communities, particularly people who may otherwise find it difficult to access such facilities.

The programme concluded with an emphasis on the importance of regular screening and timely care to protect eyesight across all age groups.
