Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 8: Lieutenant Governor Dinesh Sharma has highlighted the role of the Armed Forces in disaster response, emergency services and support to civil administration in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as the Andaman and Nicobar Command completed 25 years and the Indian Air Force marked its 94th Air Force Day.
In a message on the Silver Jubilee of the Command, Sharma recalled its establishment in 2001 as India’s first and only Tri-Service Command and underlined its contributions to humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, search and rescue operations and assistance to the civil administration.
The Command’s Silver Jubilee marks 25 years of joint service by the three services. Sharma extended greetings to its personnel, veterans, civilian employees and their families and paid tribute to those who died in the line of duty.

He said the sacrifices of personnel would continue to inspire future generations and called for the Command to maintain its traditions while contributing to a secure and peaceful India and a strong and stable Indo-Pacific region.
In a separate message marking the 94th Air Force Day, Sharma highlighted the Indian Air Force’s role in protecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He specifically pointed to the Air Force’s contribution in the Islands, including inter-island connectivity, medical evacuation, emergency assistance, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
The Lieutenant Governor also remembered Air Warriors who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and extended greetings to Air Warriors, Non-Combatants, DSC personnel and civilian employees of the Indian Air Force.
Sharma commended the dedication and commitment of Air Force personnel and expressed hope that the service would continue to uphold its traditions and contribute to the nation.
