South Andaman One Stop Centre Review Flags Infrastructure, Maintenance and Power Backup Needs

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 8: Infrastructure gaps, maintenance requirements and the need for additional facilities at the One Stop Centre (OSC) in South Andaman came under review during an inspection by Deputy Commissioner Purva Garg, who also assessed the services available to women affected by violence.

Garg, who is also Chairperson of the South Andaman OSC, reviewed the Centre’s functioning, facilities, records and services during the inspection. The Central Administrator briefed her on the assistance provided to beneficiaries, including medical, legal, psychological and police support, along with temporary shelter.

The Deputy Commissioner examined the Centre’s records and registers and interacted with staff about their responsibilities, cases handled by them and existing manpower requirements.

Cleanliness and upkeep of the facility also featured in the inspection. Directions were issued for proper maintenance of the Centre, including its terrace, store room, kitchen and surrounding areas. The requirement for strengthening the infrastructure was discussed, including the provision of an additional bathroom and dormitory facilities.

The inspection also assessed the Centre’s power backup arrangements and the status of ongoing repair and renovation work. Directions were issued to expedite the required works to ensure the Centre’s functioning remains uninterrupted and efficient.

The Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) was directed to ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of the areas surrounding the One Stop Centre.

The review covered both the Centre’s operational requirements and the physical conditions of the facility where women affected by violence receive support. The directions focused on addressing maintenance issues, improving infrastructure and completing pending works.

The inspection also highlighted the need to maintain a safe, clean and supportive environment for beneficiaries using the Centre’s services. The assessment of records, staff requirements, facilities and ongoing works was undertaken as part of the review of its functioning.
