Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 29: A community health programme at the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC A&N Islands), Brookshabad, brought physical health screening and mental health awareness together for Divyangjan, their family members and caregivers. The initiative combined a free general health check-up with counselling and awareness on emotional well-being, stress management and timely professional support.
CRC A&N Islands organised the Mental Health Awareness Programme-cum-General Health Check-up in association with G.B. Pant Hospital, MY Bharat and Tele-MANAS. The programme focused on promoting integrated physical and mental well-being among persons with disabilities and those involved in their care.
Dr. Prabir Kumar Palit, Chief Medical Officer, Garacharma District Hospital, conducted the general health examination for Divyangjan and their parents and caregivers. The free check-up provided a medical component to the programme alongside the mental health interventions.
The Tele-MANAS team from the Directorate of Health Services, represented by Psychologist Shyamali Singh and Counsellor Madhavi Nambiar, engaged with participants on psychological and emotional concerns. The sessions covered emotional well-being, approaches to managing stress and the importance of seeking professional assistance when required.
The programme also highlighted the need to address physical and mental health together, particularly in community-based support for persons with disabilities and their caregivers. Director, CRC A&N Islands, Sumithamol S., underscored the importance of integrated healthcare and acknowledged the contribution of the collaborating departments and professionals in making the initiative accessible to the community.
The collaboration brought together rehabilitation, healthcare and mental health professionals at the CRC facility in Brookshabad, providing participants with access to both general health assessment and mental health awareness within the same programme.
The initiative involved CRC A&N Islands, G.B. Pant Hospital, MY Bharat and Tele-MANAS, with health and mental health professionals directly engaging with Divyangjan and their parents and caregivers.
