Patna, Sept. 26: A third video purportedly showing the harassment of a young girl has surfaced on social media in Bihar’s Samastipur district, prompting police to examine the footage as authorities face heightened scrutiny following two earlier videos alleging harassment of women in the area.
The latest footage is reportedly linked to Kalyanpur block, but investigators have yet to establish its authenticity, recording date or location. Those details remain subject to verification, and the circumstances depicted in the video will require investigation before the footage can be treated as evidence of a specific incident.
The video shows a young girl standing on a road while several youths allegedly harass her and record the episode. One youth wearing a vest repeatedly holds her hand as she tries to move away. She can be heard asking them to release her and saying she will call her brother. The youths allegedly tell her to call him.
At one point, another youth appears to approach her aggressively and slaps her. Other people are visible nearby, but the footage does not show anyone intervening. A youth standing beside a motorcycle also appears towards the end of the recording.
According to reports, police took cognisance of the matter, identified and arrested the accused allegedly involved and produced them before a court. The accused were subsequently sent to judicial custody. On Friday, authorities also reportedly used bulldozers to remove alleged encroachments or demolish properties linked to the accused.
The development follows the circulation of two separate videos from Karpurigram and Musrigharari. One earlier video allegedly showed a young girl and a man travelling on a scooter being surrounded by a crowd. Some people were accused of verbally abusing and physically assaulting them, while others remained at the scene. Police subsequently opened an investigation and arrested one accused, according to reports.
The latest footage is being examined independently, with its date, location and authenticity yet to be established.
The sequence of videos has intensified attention on alleged harassment of women in Samastipur and the police response to such cases. Authorities are continuing to examine the available material to establish what occurred and identify those responsible, where evidence supports such action.
