CFO Nallah Bailey Bridge Closure Ordered From September 20 for Component Work, Under-Deck Painting

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 18:  The CFO Nallah Steel Bailey Bridge will remain closed to road traffic for 10 days from September 20 to 29 to facilitate repair and maintenance work, including the removal and refitting of bridge components and painting beneath the structure, authorities said.

The closure follows a request from the Executive Engineer, North Andaman Construction Division (NACD), APWD, Mayabunder, for the bridge to be shut to enable the scheduled works. The Executive Engineer sought permission specifically to remove the decking plate to facilitate the provision and fixing of Bailey bridge components and painting of the bridge under deck.

Additional District Magistrate, North and Middle Andaman, S. Krishna Chaitanya issued the closure order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. The order covers the period from September 20, 2026, through September 29, 2026.

The administrative decision places a fixed timeframe on the bridge maintenance work, with the closure linked directly to the requirements of the repair programme. The decking plate will be removed as part of the process for carrying out the component-related work and painting beneath the bridge.

The APWD’s NACD, Mayabunder, has been directed to complete the repair and maintenance of the Steel Bailey Bridge within the stipulated 10-day period. The department has also been instructed to communicate the reopening of the bridge promptly once the work is completed.

The order was issued by the Additional District Magistrate, North and Middle Andaman, following the proposal submitted by the Executive Engineer. The closure will therefore remain in force during the specified period to allow the identified bridge works to be undertaken.

The scheduled maintenance involves both structural component work and painting beneath the bridge, with the administration requiring the executing agency to adhere to the prescribed completion timeline and promptly communicate when the bridge is reopened.
