N&MA Police secures conviction in 500-gram ganja case, accused fined ₹10,000 by Mayabunder court

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 18: The North and Middle Andaman (N&MA) Police has secured the conviction of an accused in an NDPS case involving the seizure of approximately 500 grams of ganja, with the Mayabunder court imposing a fine of ₹10,000.

The judgment was pronounced by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mayabunder, on September 8, 2026, in a case registered at Police Station Diglipur on January 28, 2026.

According to N&MA Police, the case followed prompt action by the Diglipur police team after it received information related to the accused. The team intercepted the accused and recovered approximately 500 grams of ganja.

Police subsequently investigated the case and collected evidence in support of the prosecution. The investigation was followed by prosecution proceedings, which culminated in the conviction of the accused by the court.

The court imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the accused following the conviction.

The case forms part of N&MA Police’s action against offences involving narcotic substances. Police said the outcome reflects its focus on timely action, evidence collection and follow-up during prosecution in NDPS cases.

The conviction follows the registration of the case in January 2026 and the subsequent legal proceedings before the Chief Judicial Magistrate at Mayabunder.

N&MA Police said the case demonstrates the role of coordinated investigation and prosecution in securing convictions in drug-related cases. It also reiterated its commitment to combating the menace of drugs.

The police department attributed the outcome to the prompt intervention of the Diglipur team, investigation of the case, collection of evidence and prosecution follow-up.

The accused was convicted after the court considered the case registered at Police Station Diglipur, where the seizure of approximately 500 grams of ganja had been made following the interception.

With the court imposing the ₹10,000 fine, the proceedings in the case resulted in a conviction for the accused. N&MA Police said it would continue its efforts against drug-related offences in the region.
