Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 16: The Department of Home Science at Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM), in association with NSS Unit-I, JNRM, is observing Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2026 from September 9 to 19 with a series of activities focused on nutrition awareness and healthy living among students and the rural population.
As part of the programme, students and faculty members visited the Anganwadi Centre in Ward No. 5, where the programme was inaugurated by Usha Devi, CDPO, South Andaman. She was accompanied by Nidhi Shekhawat, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Home Science, faculty members, Mukhya Sevika and Anganwadi Centre workers.
The inauguration programme included activities aimed at highlighting the importance of nutritious food and awareness about common nutritional concerns.
Nutritious recipes prepared by parents and Anganwadi Centre workers were displayed during the programme. The display provided an opportunity to showcase food preparations as part of the nutrition awareness activities being conducted during Rashtriya Poshan Maah.
JNRM students also presented two Nukkad Nataks on the themes ‘Motapa – Sehat Ka Dushman’ and ‘Malnutrition’. Through the street plays, students addressed obesity and malnutrition as nutrition-related concerns.
A lecture on anaemia was delivered by Reena Singh, Resource Person, Department of Home Science. This was followed by an interactive session with parents of Anganwadi Centre beneficiaries.
The programme had begun on September 9 with a Slogan Writing Competition. Students participated in the activity as part of the awareness programmes being organised during the month.
A Walkathon was subsequently held on September 11, with the participation of students, faculty members and NSS volunteers. The walk formed another component of the series of activities planned by the Department of Home Science and NSS Unit-I.
The programme will continue with a Gram Sabha scheduled to be held at Mithakhari Gram Panchayat on September 17. The Gram Sabha will focus on nutritional issues and is planned to involve parents and school-going children.
The activities are being conducted with the stated objective of creating awareness about nutrition and healthy living among students as well as the rural population.
The programme will conclude on September 19, 2026, with the distribution of certificates.
The 11-day programme, which began on September 9, includes awareness activities involving students, faculty members, NSS volunteers, parents, Anganwadi workers and members of the rural community. The activities include the slogan writing competition, Walkathon, street plays, a lecture on anaemia, an interactive session with parents and the upcoming Gram Sabha at Mithakhari.
Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2026 at JNRM is being observed through these activities to bring nutrition-related discussions into educational and community settings, with the programme extending from the college to an Anganwadi Centre and the Mithakhari Gram Panchayat.
