A&N U-17 Boys Football Team To Compete In 65th Subroto Mukerjee Cup In Delhi

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 16: The Under-17 Boys Football Team of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is set to represent the Islands at the 65th Subroto Mukerjee Cup International Football Tournament-2026 in New Delhi.

The tournament is being held from September 15 to 24, 2026, with teams competing in the prestigious international football tournament during the 10-day event.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands team secured its place in the tournament after emerging as the winner of the State Level Football Tournament held in April 2026.

Following their victory at the state-level competition, the selected players underwent advanced training at Netaji Stadium in Sri Vijaya Puram as part of their preparation for the national-level championship.

The training programme was conducted under the guidance of qualified coaches and Physical Education Teachers. The players underwent rigorous preparation ahead of their participation in the Subroto Mukerjee Cup, with the training focused on preparing the team for the competition in New Delhi.

The team’s participation comes after the players progressed through the local-level competition and secured the opportunity to represent the Andaman and Nicobar Islands at the national championship.

Ahead of the team’s departure, Director (Education) Aditya Sangotra met the players, team coach and team manager at the Directorate of Education in Sri Vijaya Puram on September 12.

During the interaction, Sangotra conveyed his best wishes to the team and extended his blessings to the players, coach and manager ahead of their participation in the tournament.

The 65th Subroto Mukerjee Cup International Football Tournament-2026 provides the A&N U-17 boys team an opportunity to compete in a national-level football championship after emerging victorious at the State Level Football Tournament earlier this year.

The team’s preparation included a period of training at Netaji Stadium following the April tournament. Qualified coaches and Physical Education Teachers were involved in the training programme as the selected players prepared for the competition.

The team will now take part in the tournament in New Delhi, representing the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Under-17 boys category.

The Subroto Mukerjee Cup is an established football tournament named after Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee. The 2026 edition is scheduled to take place from September 15 to 24 in New Delhi.

For the players from the Islands, the tournament follows their success in the April State Level Football Tournament and the subsequent training programme at Netaji Stadium.

The Directorate of Education has extended its support to the team ahead of its participation, with Director (Education) Aditya Sangotra meeting the team before its departure and conveying his best wishes for the tournament.

The A&N U-17 boys football team will compete in New Delhi during the tournament period from September 15 to 24, carrying the representation of the Islands into the 65th edition of the Subroto Mukerjee Cup International Football Tournament.
