Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 16: Dr. Dinesh Sharma assumed office as the 14th Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, following a formal swearing-in ceremony at Lok Niwas in Sri Vijaya Puram.

Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Justice Ravindra Vithalrao Ghuge, administered the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy to Dr. Sharma during the ceremony held on Tuesday morning.

The formal proceedings began with the reading of the Warrant of Appointment by Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Gyanesh Bharti. Following the administration of the oath, a contingent of the Andaman and Nicobar Police presented a Guard of Honour to the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor.

Dr. Sharma later interacted with the people and guests who were present at the ceremony.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by First Lady of the Islands Dr. Jai Lakshmi Sharma and other members of the Lieutenant Governor’s family, along with a number of dignitaries from the islands.

The assumption of office marks the beginning of Dr. Sharma’s tenure as the 14th Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory.

Later in the afternoon, Dr. Sharma visited the National Memorial Cellular Jail, where he paid tribute to the freedom fighters at the Martyr’s Column. He laid a wreath at the memorial as part of his visit to the historic site shortly after taking charge as Lieutenant Governor.

Dr. Sharma also visited the Veer Savarkar Cell at the Cellular Jail and paid homage there. During the visit, he also wrote a message in the visitors’ book and interacted with dignitaries present at the National Memorial.
