Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 15: Aberdeen Police seized approximately 472 grams of suspected ganja and detained a 23-year-old man during an anti-narcotics operation near Chollanga Jetty in Marine Hill, Sri Vijaya Puram, on September 14, police said.
The operation followed information received by Aberdeen police station SHO Inspector Vijay Kumar at around 8:30 pm that a person was allegedly carrying narcotic substances and attempting to conduct a clandestine deal with a potential customer at an isolated seashore location in the area. Police conveyed the information to the SDPO, South Andaman, and recorded it in the police station General Diary after obtaining authorization.
A raiding team led by Inspector Kumar reached the seashore near Chollanga Jetty on Marine Hill Road at around 8:45 pm. Two independent witnesses joined the search proceedings, while Executive Magistrate M. Om Prakash of the Revenue Department also reached the location and participated in the procedure.
Police intercepted the suspect at around 8:55 pm and identified him as Akash Biswas, 23, son of Raju Biswas and a resident of Ward No. 01, Lillypur, Haddo, Sri Vijaya Puram. He was carrying a bag, police said.
After completing the required legal formalities, police served him a notice under Section 50 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and witnesses before conducting the personal search.
The search led to the recovery of a light-green polythene packet wrapped in brown parcel tape. Police said the packet contained suspected ganja and had been concealed inside a 5-kg KMS boiled rice bag.
A preliminary examination using a Drug Detection Kit indicated the substance was ganja, according to the police report. An electronic weighing machine recorded approximately 472 grams, including the polythene packaging.
Police sealed the seized material at the site using a brass seal bearing the “Swastik” symbol and completed the seizure memo at around 10:10 pm. The seal was later handed to an independent witness under a separate memo.
The search and seizure were photographed and videographed through the e-Sakshya Mobile Application, with a certificate under Section 63(4)(c) of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, generated for the digital evidence.
Police detained Biswas at around 10:25 pm in connection with an offence under Section 20(b)(ii)A of the NDPS Act. They said they explained the grounds and reasons for his detention in Hindi and informed his relatives by phone.
Biswas and the seized material were brought to Aberdeen police station at around 10:55 pm. The case property was deposited in the Malkhana under MAD No. 207/2026 dated September 14, 2026.
Police have registered an FIR and entrusted further investigation to Sub-Inspector V. P. Mishra of PS Aberdeen.
