CBI Opens Fresh Probe Into Disha Salian Death, Registers FIR After Bombay High Court Direction

Date:

New Delhi, Sept. 14: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR into the 2020 death of celebrity manager Disha Salian following a Bombay High Court direction for a fresh investigation, bringing the circumstances surrounding her death under a renewed central probe.

The development came two days after Salian’s father, Satish Salian, recorded his statement before the CBI. In his statement, he alleged that several people were involved in a conspiracy and subsequent cover-up and called for their roles to be investigated in connection with the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death.

According to the statement, Satish Salian alleged offences including criminal conspiracy, creation and circulation of what he described as a false narrative that his daughter had died by suicide, and the alleged suppression, destruction or fabrication of evidence.

The individuals named in the statement include former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray, Rohan Roy, Dino Morea, Sooraj Pancholi, Aditya Thackeray’s bodyguards, Rhea Chakraborty, Showik Chakraborty, Sachin Vaze, Param Bir Singh, DCP Vishal Thakur and former Maharashtra minister Anil Deshmukh, besides several police officials.

The statement also refers to personnel associated with Malvani Police Station, doctors and staff whom the father alleged were connected to a delay in the post-mortem, personnel of the Forensic Science Laboratory in Kalina, security guards at Regent Galaxy Building and other individuals.

The CBI had earlier written to Malvani police seeking documents and records connected with Salian’s death to assist its investigation.

The Bombay High Court directed the registration of an FIR and ordered a fresh CBI investigation into the case. It also directed the appointment of a senior CBI officer to supervise the probe.

Salian, who worked as a celebrity manager, died in Mumbai in June 2020 in circumstances that have remained the subject of scrutiny. Her death occurred shortly before that of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, resulting in speculation and demands for a detailed examination of the circumstances surrounding both deaths.

The fresh CBI investigation will now examine the material and allegations placed before the agency as part of the proceedings.
