Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 10: Twenty villagers and traditional craftspeople at Guptapara have completed a 15-day handicrafts skill development programme aimed at building practical expertise in making commercial and utility products from locally available materials.
Organised by the Directorate of Industries at Gram Panchayat Guptapara, the training focused on processing and working with eco-friendly raw materials such as coconut shells, wood, cane, bamboo and coir. The participants underwent hands-on training in material processing, product design and sustainable craft techniques.
The programme forms part of the Directorate of Industries’ ongoing efforts to support rural entrepreneurship, preserve indigenous craft traditions and create livelihood opportunities at the grassroots level.
The training concluded with a valedictory ceremony at GP Guptapara attended by Directorate of Industries officials Alvi Kutty, Deputy Director, and Liakat Ali, S.C.F., along with local representatives Alladi Roy, PRI Member, and Morine Das.
During the concluding event, the guests congratulated the trainees for completing the programme and commended the standard of products produced during the 15-day training.
The programme also drew appreciation from villagers, self-help groups and Panchayat Raj Institution members, who acknowledged the Directorate’s initiative in bringing skill development activities to the local community.
The participants’ practical work remained a central part of the training, with the programme designed to help traditional craftspeople develop skills that can be applied to products made from materials available within the locality.
The Directorate of Industries is continuing such skill development initiatives as part of its focus on rural entrepreneurship, traditional crafts and sustainable livelihood opportunities in the Islands.
