Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 10: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has launched an intensive mobilisation drive to bring eligible rural youth into free residential skill-training programmes under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) 2.0, with courses linked to tourism, electronics and green jobs.
The Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs is encouraging eligible candidates across the islands to enrol in the job-oriented programmes. The training will be provided at no cost on a residential basis, with 100% placement support after successful completion, subject to the applicable provisions of DDU-GKY 2.0.
The Project Approval Committee, chaired by the Commissioner-Cum-Secretary (RD/Panch.), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, recently approved skill-training projects covering four trades. The approved programmes will operate through training centres in South Andaman.
Aishwarya Vignan Educational Society, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, will conduct training for Front Office Assistant under the Tourism and Hospitality sector. Applicants must have passed Class 10 without any experience. The age limit is 18 to 35 years for men and 18 to 45 years for women.
The same training provider will offer Multi-Skill Technician (Home Appliances) under the Electronics sector. Eligibility includes Class 8 with three years of experience, Class 10 with two years of experience, or Class 12 without experience.
A third course through Aishwarya Vignan Educational Society will train candidates as Solar PV Installer – Electrical under the Green Jobs sector. Candidates must have passed Class 12 without any experience.
Orion Educational Society, Kolkata, West Bengal, will offer training for Guest Service Executive (Front Office) under Tourism and Hospitality. The course requires Class 12 qualification along with three years of experience.
The broader eligibility conditions for the approved programmes require candidates to fall within the specified household categories under SECC-2011. Eligible households include those belonging to DAY-NRLM Self-Help Groups, Antyodaya Anna Yojana, Below Poverty Line–Priority Household, MGNREGA (VB-GRAMG) or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana categories.
The Administration said the courses have been approved to provide practical, industry-oriented skills and expand employment opportunities for rural youth in emerging and service-sector occupations. The residential format and placement support are intended to connect eligible candidates with employment opportunities after training, in accordance with the applicable scheme provisions.
