Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 31: Street theatre and group singing took centre stage at Wandoor Beach as Panchayats from Ferrargunj Tehsil used the second day of the DC–SP Cup Inter-Village Cultural Competition to raise awareness about drug abuse and the need for a drug-free society.
The District Administration, South Andaman, is organising the competition under the theme ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’. The programme drew enthusiastic participation from the public, particularly children and young people, who watched performances presented before the jury and audience.
Participating Panchayats presented Nukkad Natak and Group Singing as part of the cultural competition. The street plays focused on the adverse effects of drug abuse and conveyed messages supporting a society free from substance abuse.
The musical performances reinforced the competition’s central theme while also providing a platform for participating Panchayats to showcase their cultural talent.
Children and youth formed a notable part of the programme’s participation. Performers demonstrated confidence and creativity while delivering messages on the importance of avoiding substance abuse.
Shweta K. Sugathan, Superintendent of Police, District South Andaman, attended the event as chief guest. Her participation and words of encouragement motivated the performers and contributed to the enthusiasm among participants.
The programme also included recognition of the jury members. At its conclusion, the Superintendent of Police, South Andaman, felicitated the jury for their contribution and support to the conduct of the competition.
The second day of the inter-village cultural competition concluded at Wandoor Beach after performances by the participating Panchayats and public participation.
The competition will now move to its final stage. The finals of the DC–SP Cup Inter-Village Cultural Competition are scheduled to take place at Corbyn’s Cove Beach on September 5, 2026.
The event’s cultural format has placed drug-abuse awareness alongside performances, allowing participating Panchayats to communicate the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ message through street theatre and music while engaging children, youth and the wider public.
