Sri Vijaya Puram, August 18: A man wanted in connection with a rape and kidnapping case registered in Kolkata has been arrested in Sri Vijaya Puram in a joint operation conducted by Kolkata Police and Pahargaon Police. The accused, who had allegedly fled Kolkata after the alleged offences, was traced and apprehended following coordinated action by the two police forces.
The accused has been identified as Dilip Sardar, 33. According to sources, he is wanted in connection with a case involving allegations of kidnapping a woman in Kolkata and sexually assaulting her multiple times before leaving the city in an alleged attempt to evade arrest.
Acting on information regarding the accused’s whereabouts, a team from Kolkata Police travelled to Sri Vijaya Puram and coordinated with Pahargaon Police to locate him. The joint operation culminated in his arrest on August 16.

Police sources said the accused had allegedly taken shelter in Sri Vijaya Puram after fleeing Kolkata. Based on the information received by the investigating agency, officers conducted the operation that led to his apprehension.
Following the arrest, the accused is scheduled to be taken back to Kolkata on August 18 for further legal proceedings in connection with the case registered there.

The arrest highlights the coordination between police agencies across states and Union Territories in tracing and apprehending persons wanted in serious criminal cases. The investigation into the case will continue in Kolkata after the accused is produced before the competent court in accordance with legal procedure.
Police have not disclosed further details regarding the investigation. The allegations against the accused remain subject to judicial proceedings, and his culpability will be determined through the due process of law.
