Andaman Police Launch Specialised NSG Training for VVIP Security and Tactical Driving

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, August 18:  The Andaman & Nicobar Police have begun a specialised two-week training programme with the National Security Guard (NSG) to strengthen the capabilities of personnel handling VVIP security, close protection and tactical driving duties across the Islands.

The programme, which commenced on August 17, 2026, brings together 100 police personnel from different units of the Andaman & Nicobar Police. Of the total participants, 70 are undergoing training in Personal Security Officer (PSO) duties, while 30 are being trained in tactical driving.

The Andaman & Nicobar Police are conducting the programme in collaboration with the Headquarters Close Protection Force (CPF), NSG, Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana. A dedicated NSG team led by Assistant Commandant Sahi Ram is providing the specialised instruction.

The training covers operational aspects of VVIP security and close protection through lectures, demonstrations and practical exercises. The programme includes security drills, vehicle control, safe and tactical driving, parking principles and other requirements associated with PSO and security duties.

The initiative comes against the backdrop of the security responsibilities handled by the Islands during visits by VVIPs, including the President and Prime Minister of India, Union Ministers and other senior constitutional and dignitary-level visitors.

The police said the specialised programme is intended to develop a pool of professionally trained personnel capable of handling VVIP security, close protection and tactical driving responsibilities. The training is also aimed at strengthening the force’s preparedness to provide coordinated security during VVIP visits and other important engagements.

DGP Andaman & Nicobar Islands Ravindra Singh Yadav attended the programme as chief guest and interacted with the NSG training team and participating police personnel.

Yadav expressed gratitude to the Director General of the NSG and the NSG training team for providing their expertise and support for the programme. He said collaborative training initiatives give police personnel exposure to specialised techniques and established practices, helping strengthen their professional capabilities and operational preparedness for VVIP and close protection duties.

The collaboration with the NSG’s Headquarters Close Protection Force forms part of the Andaman & Nicobar Police’s efforts towards continuous professional skill development, capacity building and adoption of best practices in security management.

The programme is expected to create a trained pool of personnel equipped to meet specialised requirements in VVIP security, close protection and tactical driving, further strengthening security preparedness in the Islands.

The entire programme was conceptualised and coordinated by Apoorva Gupta, IPS, Commandant, IRBn, and is being conducted under her guidance and supervision.
