Sri Vijaya Puram, July 30: A man was arrested and more than two kilograms of suspected ganja were seized during an anti-narcotics operation in Kadamtala, North and Middle Andaman, on July 29, marking the second case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the district on the same day. Police have launched an investigation to trace the source of the contraband and identify others who may be linked to the alleged narcotics network.

According to police, the operation was carried out at Bhakta Road in Kadamtala after officers received specific intelligence that a local resident was allegedly in possession of narcotic substances.

Acting on the information, a police team led by Sub-Inspector P. R. Shain Nair, Station House Officer of Kadamtala Police Station, conducted a search at the location.

During the operation, police recovered two concealed packets containing more than two kilograms of suspected ganja from the possession of the accused. The contraband was seized in accordance with the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, and the accused was arrested after the completion of the prescribed legal formalities.

Police said the investigation is continuing to determine the origin of the seized narcotic substance and identify any other individuals who may be involved in its alleged procurement or distribution.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Mahendra Singh Charan, SDPO, Rangat, while overall supervision of anti-narcotics enforcement in the case was provided by Vikas Swami, Superintendent of Police, North and Middle Andaman District.

Police have appealed to the public to share information related to the illegal possession, transportation or sale of narcotic substances. Citizens have been advised to report such activities to the nearest police station or through the emergency helplines 100 and 112.

According to police, the identities of informants providing actionable information will be kept confidential, and suitable rewards will be provided in accordance with the applicable provisions.

The latest seizure comes amid continuing enforcement under the NDPS Act in North and Middle Andaman, with investigators examining possible links between the recovered contraband and a wider narcotics supply network.
