Sri Vijaya Puram, July 9: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has withdrawn the revised vehicle ferry timetable for the Chatham–Dundas Point route following objections from local panchayats and commuters, restoring the earlier schedule from July 13 in response to public representations.
The Directorate of Shipping Services announced that the vehicle ferry schedule in force before July 1, 2026, will be reinstated on Route No. 1 (Chatham–Dundas Point) with effect from July 13, 2026. The decision comes after the Directorate reviewed requests submitted by elected panchayat representatives and local residents seeking the restoration of the previous timetable.
The ferry schedule had been revised with effect from July 1, 2026, through a press release issued on June 25, following representations received from Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members.
After the revised schedule came into operation, further representations were received from the Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Mithakhari and Namunaghar, along with local residents, urging the Administration to restore the earlier ferry timings. The representations cited the convenience of the general public and daily commuters using the route.
According to the Directorate of Shipping Services, the matter was examined after considering the views received from all stakeholders. Following the review, the Directorate decided to withdraw the revised timetable and restore the schedule that existed prior to July 1.
The restored vehicle ferry schedule will take effect from July 13 onwards, replacing the revised timetable introduced earlier this month.
The Directorate has advised passengers and vehicle owners to take note of the restored schedule and plan their journeys accordingly.
The Directorate of Shipping Services also acknowledged the cooperation extended by the public during the process and reiterated its commitment to providing safe, reliable and commuter-friendly vehicle ferry services across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
