Students in Diglipur Learn to Dial for Help at Helpline Awareness Drive

Date:

Diglipur, April 29:
In an initiative aimed at strengthening child protection and emergency response awareness, the ICDS Project (Rural) Diglipur, under the Directorate of Social Welfare, held an awareness program for school students at PM Govt. Senior Secondary School, Subashgram.

The drive focused on familiarizing children with critical national helpline services, including Childline – 1098, Police – 100, Fire Brigade – 101, and Ambulance – 102. The outreach was part of a nationwide campaign to ensure timely access to support systems in case of distress, emergencies, or abuse.

Indira Devi, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), underlined the importance of educating young citizens about emergency resources. “Equipping our children with knowledge about these helplines ensures their safety and mental well-being. It’s a step toward a more informed and secure youth environment,” she said.

The session provided a detailed overview of when and how each helpline should be used. Emphasis was placed on the 1098 helpline, which offers round-the-clock support to children in distress, ensuring they have a safe channel to report abuse or ask for help.

The event concluded with N Naseem Bibi, Mukhya Sevika, distributing brochures containing emergency contact information and other key details in simplified formats. Students were also encouraged to take a pledge to spread this critical information among their friends and families.

The program is part of a larger mission under the Social Welfare Department to create safer, better-informed communities where children feel empowered to seek help when needed. By reaching out to schools, the ICDS project hopes to plant the seeds of proactive safety awareness among the youth of remote regions like Diglipur.
