Sri Vijaya Puram, June 3: The newly formed academic governance structure of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Institute of Higher Learning took a decisive step forward as its first Academic Council meeting was convened in Sri Vijaya Puram, marking the formal beginning of structured academic decision-making for the institution. The meeting, held at the Secretariat Conference Hall, addressed foundational regulatory and planning frameworks aimed at shaping the university’s academic future in alignment with national education standards.
Chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, the maiden council meeting focused on establishing academic regulations, examination standards, and long-term institutional planning mechanisms. The deliberations centred on creating a structured system for curriculum delivery, evaluation processes, and academic monitoring to ensure consistency with norms prescribed by the University Grants Commission and relevant statutory regulatory bodies.
During the session, the Academic Council approved a comprehensive set of academic and examination regulations. These approvals are intended to guide academic operations and ensure standardised implementation across constituent colleges functioning under the institution’s umbrella. The council also finalised a framework for academic planning and monitoring, designed to streamline teaching processes and strengthen institutional oversight.
A key outcome of the meeting was the decision to commence admissions from the academic year 2026–27 across all constituent colleges under the institute. The resolution establishes a formal timeline for student intake under the new structure, signalling the transition of the institution into a fully operational academic system governed by its newly constituted council.
Officials present at the meeting also discussed the broader objective of institutional strengthening, focusing on building a robust academic ecosystem. The council underlined the importance of coordinated efforts in developing academic quality benchmarks and ensuring effective implementation of governance mechanisms across departments and colleges.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, while addressing the council, emphasised the significance of the inaugural meeting as a foundational milestone in shaping the institution’s academic direction. He highlighted the collective responsibility of members in maintaining academic standards and contributing to the development of a premier higher education institution in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The council also aligned its initial framework with the broader objectives of the National Education Policy 2020, particularly in areas of academic flexibility, quality enhancement, and institutional autonomy. The discussions reflected a commitment to integrating policy-driven reforms into the university’s operational structure.
With the conclusion of its first meeting, the Academic Council has laid down the initial governance architecture for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Institute of Higher Learning, setting in motion the academic and administrative processes required for its upcoming operational phase.
