Sri Vijaya Puram, 2 May: Lt Governor Admiral D. K. Joshi is set to play a central role in the upcoming Guinness World Record attempt at Swaraj Dweep, with both ceremonial and participatory involvement across the multi-day event.
Officials confirmed that the Lt Governor has already undertaken a preparatory dive, during which he personally participated in the unfolding of the national flag underwater, an exercise aimed at assessing coordination, safety, and execution readiness ahead of the main attempt.
On the day of the record attempt, scheduled between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, the Lt Governor will formally hand over India’s largest national flag, measuring 60 by 40 metres, to the diving team. This ceremonial handover will mark the official commencement of the attempt. Upon his signal, nearly 180 scuba divers will proceed to unfurl the flag underwater in a synchronized operation.
The Lt Governor will remain present throughout the duration of the attempt, overseeing proceedings alongside officials and representatives from multiple agencies. The event brings together divers from the Indian Navy, Forest Department, Police Marine Force, and the local scuba diving community, making it one of the largest coordinated underwater exercises in the region.
Guinness World Records officials are already stationed on the island to monitor and validate the attempt, with strict adherence to global verification protocols.
Beyond the flag attempt, Admiral Joshi is also scheduled to participate in the second major event planned for May 3, the attempt to create the world’s largest underwater human stack. His continued involvement across both events signals administrative backing as well as a hands-on approach to promoting the islands’ capabilities in adventure tourism and large scale marine coordination.
The Lt Governor’s participation is expected to add both visibility and institutional support to the record attempt, which is being positioned as a landmark event for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
