Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 29: A newly constructed cement concrete road in Wandoor Ward No. 3, connecting the village road to the residence of Sanatan Biswas, was inaugurated on September 27, with the project aimed at improving all-weather access for residents of the locality.
The road was inaugurated by P. Ummer, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad South Andaman. Rajanish Singh, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad South Andaman, presided over the inauguration programme.
The new road is expected to make everyday movement safer and more convenient for residents by providing a durable connection within the locality. Improved road access also facilitates residents’ movement to schools, healthcare facilities, markets and other essential services, according to the Zilla Parishad.
Speaking at the programme, Ummer said strengthening basic infrastructure at the village level remains an important part of the Zilla Parishad’s efforts to improve living conditions in rural areas. He said the Zilla Parishad was undertaking need-based development works to address infrastructure requirements across different villages.
He also said the local body would continue efforts to strengthen rural connectivity and essential infrastructure in Panchayat areas. He acknowledged the cooperation extended by Panchayati Raj Institution representatives and the local community during the execution of the road project.
Prakash Adhikari, Zilla Parishad Member, Guptapara; Bharat Sharma, Panchayat Samiti Member; Uttam Kumar Roy, Up-Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Wandoor; and Sukhalata Pahan, Ward Member, Wandoor-03, attended the programme along with other Zilla Parishad members, PRI representatives and local residents.
Local residents welcomed the completion of the road and said the improved connectivity would benefit people living in the area.
