Mounting pressure on GB Pant Hospital has once again highlighted concerns over public healthcare infrastructure in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. During a visit, The Wave Andaman observed several patients receiving treatment on mattresses placed on the floor due to a shortage of hospital beds. The visit also found around 12–13 rusted ambulances parked inside the hospital campus, appearing non-operational. As the islands’ principal government referral hospital, GB Pant serves patients from across the archipelago. The report raises important questions about whether hospital infrastructure is keeping pace with increasing patient demand. The Wave Andaman has reached out to the Directorate of Health Services for its response. The story will be updated if a response is received.
