A&N Islands hold UT-level DGsP/IGsP conference chaired by Lieutenant Governor

Date:

A Union Territory–level DGsP/IGsP Conference was held in Sri Vijaya Puram on Monday under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Admiral D. K. Joshi (Retd.), who also serves as Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency. The meeting was convened to discuss key outcomes of the All India DGsP/IGsP Conference 2025 and to outline implementation strategies for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The conference was attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Director General of Police Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, PCCF Sanjay Kumar Sinha, other Commissioner-cum-Secretaries, senior officers of the Administration and officers of the Andaman & Nicobar Police.

The inaugural session, held at Lok Niwas, featured an overview of the 60th All India DGsP/IGsP Conference along with a performance report detailing the achievements of A&N Police. Officials discussed the framework required to implement actionable points at the UT level and to enhance coordination between the Police Department and the Civil Administration. The Lieutenant Governor acknowledged Police Station Pahargaon for securing the second position among more than 18,000 police stations nationwide.

During the discussions, the Lieutenant Governor stressed the need for coordinated efforts between civil authorities and law enforcement to ensure the safety and welfare of island residents. He urged officers to prioritise the timely execution of the recommendations arising from the 2025 national conference.

Technical sessions were conducted at the Police Headquarters, where officers deliberated on key policing challenges, including disaster management, coastal security, the use of technology such as NATGRID and ICJS, and strategies to counter cyber fraud and narcotics-related crimes.

The conference concluded with a reaffirmation of the A&N Police’s commitment to upholding high standards of policing and governance across the Union Territory, in alignment with the national vision outlined by the Prime Minister.
