A&N Administration Announces Major Underwater Guinness World Record Initiative

The Andaman & Nicobar Administration has announced plans to attempt multiple underwater Guinness World Records (GWR) in March 2026 at Radha Nagar Beach, Swaraj Dweep, marking one of the region’s most ambitious sport-diving initiatives to date. The record attempts will include the “Largest Flag unfurled underwater,” the “Tallest human stack underwater,” and the “Longest human chain underwater,” with certified recreational scuba divers invited to participate in the latter category.

According to officials, the event is tentatively set between March 20 and 30, 2026, at Radha Nagar Beach No. 7. The administration has opened registrations for eligible Indian nationals with valid scuba certifications who wish to participate in the human chain attempt. Only individuals aged 18 years or above may register.

As per the selection criteria, applicants must hold at least an Open Water Diver certification from a WRSTC-recognised training agency and possess a minimum of 10 logged dives. Participants are required to submit a WRSTC Medical Form, including a doctor’s fitness approval. Certified divers with higher-level qualifications, more extensive logged diving experience, and those who possess personal diving gear will receive preference during the shortlisting process. The administration has announced that equipment will be provided for participants who do not have their own, except prescription masks, which divers must bring themselves.

A panel comprising Dive Professionals and representatives of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) will evaluate applications and select the final group of divers. Selected candidates will be notified through email regarding subsequent procedures. Additionally, participants above 50 years of age must provide a separate medical fitness certificate. The last date for submission of applications is December 15, 2025, by 5 p.m., and forms must be sent to andamantourismscuba@gmail.com.

The administration has clarified that the initiative is entirely non-profit, with no fees charged for registration, selection, or participation. However, all travel, accommodation, and related logistical expenses must be borne by the selected participants. A list of partner hotels offering special packages, if available, will be shared with shortlisted divers. While participation itself is free, any official Guinness World Records purchases, such as participation certificates or medallions, will need to be paid for by participants if the record attempt is successfully achieved. The indicative costs include 15 GBP for a physical certificate, 3 GBP for a digital certificate, and 5 GBP for the GWR medallion, though these rates may change as per GWR policies.

The administration has also directed applicants to the official tourism portal at https://tourism.andamannicobar.gov.in/ for detailed guidelines and access to the registration form. With limited slots available, authorities have encouraged divers to apply at the earliest.

With multiple underwater records scheduled to be attempted, the initiative is expected to draw significant national interest and highlight the Andaman & Nicobar Islands’ prominence as a destination for adventure, diving, and marine sports.
