Authorities have announced temporary traffic regulation measures in Sri Vijaya Puram on January 3, 2026, to ensure the smooth and safe movement of vehicles during an official delegation visit. The measures include the facilitation of alternative routes at specific locations to manage traffic flow and prevent congestion, while ensuring that no road closures or blockades are imposed.
According to the advisory issued by the Traffic Police, the arrangements will be in place on Saturday between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm. During this period, traffic movement along key stretches of the main route will be regulated, and commuters will be guided to designated alternative routes to maintain orderly vehicular flow.
The main route affected includes Netaji Stadium, Fire Brigade Headquarters, Secretariat, Dollygunj, Bathu Basthi, Garacharma, Sippighat and Dhanikhari. To ease movement during the notified hours, vehicles will be diverted through the alternative route via RGT Road–Hawaghar Junction, Nayagaon, Chakkargoan, Corbyn’s Cove Chowk Junction and Bathu Basthi. The diversion will be applicable in both directions.
Traffic Police officials clarified that the arrangements are aimed solely at regulating the flow of vehicles during the movement of the official delegation and not at restricting public mobility. “Nowhere road blockade or closure would be imposed,” the advisory stated, underlining that the diversion plan has been put in place only to prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement across the city.
Special provisions have been made to facilitate commuters facing emergencies. Authorities said that individuals travelling to the airport, appearing for examinations, seeking medical assistance or dealing with any urgent situation may contact the Traffic Control Room or send a message via WhatsApp. Priority facilitation will be provided by Traffic Police personnel to ensure uninterrupted movement in such cases.
The Traffic Police have also advised commuters to plan their travel in advance during the specified time window. Personnel will be deployed along the affected routes and diversion points to guide motorists and assist in maintaining a steady flow of traffic.
Officials emphasised that the temporary traffic regulation is part of standard procedures followed during high-level official movements and is intended to balance security requirements with public convenience. The advisory urged road users to cooperate with traffic personnel on duty and adhere to instructions to avoid delays.
Motorists have been requested to remain alert to signage and instructions issued on the ground, particularly at junctions and diversion points. Authorities said timely cooperation from commuters would help ensure that traffic remains orderly and that disruptions are minimised during the delegation’s visit.
The Traffic Police reiterated that the measures are limited to the specified date and duration, and normal traffic movement will resume once the delegation movement concludes.
