Sri Vijaya Puram, July 20: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has notified 148 tuberculosis (TB) cases after conducting large-scale screening and awareness activities under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – 100 Days Intensified Campaign, which has been underway across the islands since its launch on March 24, 2026.
Implemented in line with national guidelines, the campaign adopts a targeted approach to strengthen tuberculosis detection, screening and community participation. Data released by the Administration covering the period from March 24 to July 17, 2026, shows extensive outreach through Ayushman Arogya Shivirs and public engagement programmes across urban, rural and other locations.
During the campaign period, the Administration conducted 762 Ayushman Arogya Shivirs, including 209 in urban areas, 553 in rural areas, seven in congregate settings and nine in other locations.
The health camps recorded a total footfall of 34,566 people, comprising 15,877 males and 18,689 females. A total of 10,895 Ni-kshay enrolments, including new registrations and new episodes, were completed during the campaign.
Health teams also carried out 14,939 chest X-rays and conducted 3,272 Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests (NAAT) as part of the intensified screening effort. Based on these activities, 148 tuberculosis cases were notified.
Alongside medical screening, the Administration expanded community participation through awareness and outreach initiatives. A total of 165 Janbhagidari activities were organised during the campaign to encourage public involvement in tuberculosis prevention and early detection.
According to the data, 188 elected representatives participated in the campaign, including one Member of Parliament, 19 Urban Local Body representatives and 168 Panchayati Raj Institution representatives.
The campaign also included 127 awareness activities in schools and colleges, 31 programmes involving line ministries, two activities with public sector undertakings, corporates and business associations, and participation by five My Bharat volunteers.
The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has appealed to citizens to actively participate in the fight against tuberculosis and support ongoing efforts aimed at eliminating the disease through early detection, screening and community participation.
