SVPMC Orders Removal of Boats, Structures Ahead of Prem Nagar Shoreline Cleanup

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 11: The Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) has directed residents, fishing boat owners and commercial boat operators to remove boats, movable belongings and temporary structures from the shoreline near the Burning Ghat at Prem Nagar before an intensive sanitation drive begins to clear accumulated silt, waste and debris from the area.

The municipal council said the cleaning operation will be carried out under its sanitation programme with the deployment of an excavator to restore the shoreline near the Burning Ghat in Ward No. 7. The exercise aims to remove accumulated silt, garbage and other debris that have built up along the coast.

According to the council, the operation will be scheduled in accordance with sea tidal movements to ensure the work is carried out safely and effectively. The timing of the exercise will therefore depend on tidal conditions.

As part of the preparations, residents living near the work site have been instructed to remove movable materials and safeguard their belongings before the commencement of the operation. The council has also asked people to clear unauthorised or illegal sheds, temporary structures and other obstructions from the shoreline, stating that such structures contribute to the accumulation of waste in the area.

Fishing boat owners and commercial boat operators have also been directed to relocate and anchor their vessels at least 20 metres away from the shoreline before the cleaning drive begins. The council said this step is necessary to allow the excavator to move freely and complete the shoreline cleaning work without obstruction.

The advisory seeks cooperation from residents, fishermen and other stakeholders to facilitate the sanitation exercise in the interest of public health, environmental protection and improved coastal cleanliness.

The municipal council further stated that it will not be responsible for any collateral damage to boats, structures, personal belongings or other property if individuals fail to comply with the directions issued before the cleaning work starts.

The proposed shoreline cleaning drive forms part of the council’s sanitation programme aimed at removing accumulated waste and improving hygiene along the coastal stretch near Prem Nagar. Authorities have urged all concerned to comply with the instructions to ensure the work proceeds without delays or operational hurdles.

The council has reiterated that timely removal of boats, temporary structures and movable materials from the designated work area will be essential for the safe execution of the operation and to avoid inconvenience during the mechanised cleaning process.
