Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council Penalises Illegal Waste Dumping

Date:

The Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) has taken strict action against illegal waste disposal after a private individual was found dumping garbage near Carmel Senior Secondary School. The incident, which came to light yesterday following a public complaint and subsequent circulation on social media, prompted an immediate response from the Council.

According to officials, the complaint highlighted that a carriage auto rickshaw was seen discarding waste in an unauthorized area. Acting on the information, SVPMC deployed a team of municipal staff to verify the report. Upon confirmation, the Council launched a coordinated investigation with assistance from local police personnel to identify the vehicle involved in the violation.

The investigation led authorities to the private owner of the carriage auto rickshaw. The individual was held responsible for the illegal act and was instructed to remove all the waste dumped at the site. The cleanup operation was carried out under the supervision of Senior Sanitary Inspector Shri Vijay Kumar of Ward No. 06, along with the ward staff. Officials ensured that the waste was properly segregated according to municipal solid waste management norms.

In addition to directing the offender to clean the site, SVPMC imposed a financial penalty of Rs. 2,000 under provisions outlined in the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Bye-laws. Municipal authorities stated that the action reflects the Council’s continued zero-tolerance policy towards illegal dumping. They further noted that similar violations were penalised on November 13 and 17 in Ward No. 03, underscoring their commitment to consistent enforcement.

SVPMC officials emphasized that maintaining sanitation standards requires cooperation from the public and strict adherence to municipal norms. They reiterated that unauthorized dumping not only affects the cleanliness of public spaces but also creates additional burdens for municipal workers and disrupts routine waste management operations.

As part of its ongoing efforts, the Council has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any illegal waste disposal activities. The municipal helpline number, 03192-231179, remains operational 24×7 for citizens to lodge complaints or provide information about such incidents. Officials assured that all verified complaints will be addressed promptly, and appropriate action will be taken against violators.

SVPMC reaffirmed that it will continue to enforce penalties and monitor waste management practices across all wards. The Council also highlighted that maintaining clean public spaces is a shared responsibility between municipal authorities and the community. By reporting violations and complying with waste disposal guidelines, residents can support ongoing efforts to keep the area clean and environmentally safe.

The incident near Carmel Senior Secondary School serves as another reminder of the Council’s strict stance on illegal dumping. With repeated enforcement actions in recent weeks, SVPMC aims to discourage unauthorized disposal practices and reinforce a system of accountability.
