Late Sudeeptho Ghosh: Andaman-Born Coast Guard Officer and Cyclist

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are grieving the loss of Late Sudeeptho Ghosh, 40, a Coast Guard officer and passionate cyclist, who passed away on October 16, 2025, in a road accident in Porbandar, Gujarat. Born on January 30, 1985, Ghosh was known for his unwavering dedication to his service, his sport, and the people around him. Friends and family remember him as a person of focus, integrity, and quiet determination, whose life reflected a rare combination of discipline and ambition.

A resident of Shore Point, Bambooflat, Ghosh completed his schooling at Carmel Senior Secondary School, Sri Vijaya Puram. He went on to pursue a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from P.E.S. College of Engineering, Mandya, before moving to Pune to complete his MBA. His academic journey reflected consistent dedication and a desire for growth.

Following his MBA, Ghosh began his career in Dubai, where he worked for nearly a year before returning to India. He later relocated to Mumbai, balancing a corporate role while preparing for the Indian Coast Guard entrance examination. His efforts were rewarded when he was selected as a Technical Officer in the rank of Assistant Commandant in the Indian Coast Guard.

After completing his probationary period, Ghosh was deputed to Pune for an M.Tech program under the Coast Guard’s training initiative, where he graduated as a gold medalist. His exemplary performance and commitment to service earned him successive promotions — first to Deputy Commandant and later to Junior Grade Commandant.

Alongside his Coast Guard career, Ghosh pursued his passion for cycling. He was an active member of the “Race Across India” community and a registered professional cyclist. He had been preparing to represent India in an international cycling event in the United States, demonstrating the same dedication and focus that marked his professional life.

It was during one of these training sessions in Porbandar that the fatal accident occurred. His untimely death has left a profound impact on his family and friends, who remember him for his unwavering focus, integrity, and perseverance.

Following his passing, the Indian Coast Guard paid tribute to Ghosh with a ceremonial salute and guard of honour, including three rounds of 21-gun firing, marking the respect and recognition of his service to the nation.

From his beginnings in the small village of Bambooflat to the national ranks of the Coast Guard, Ghosh’s journey was defined by resilience, discipline, and a steady pursuit of excellence. His life remains an example of dedication, both to his profession and to personal ambitions.

Ghosh’s legacy continues to resonate as an officer, a sportsman, and an Andaman native who carried the spirit of his islands wherever he went. His story serves as an inspiration to young islanders striving to achieve professional success while pursuing their passions.
