The State-Level Science and Mathematics Quiz Competition 2025 brought together students from across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on December 20, as the Science Wing of the Directorate of Education organised the annual academic event at the TGCE Auditorium in Sri Vijaya Puram. Conducted in collaboration with the Samagra Shiksha UT Mission Authority, the competition saw participation from eight educational zones, reflecting a broad geographical spread and strong institutional involvement.
The quiz was structured to include three categories, upper primary, secondary, and senior secondary, allowing students from different stages of schooling to compete within their respective academic levels. With teams representing zones from South Andaman to Diglipur, Rangat, Mayabunder, Little Andaman and Wimberlygunj, the event emerged as a closely contested platform that tested conceptual understanding, analytical ability and subject clarity in science and mathematics.
Officials associated with the programme said the competition was designed not merely to assess textbook knowledge, but to encourage logical reasoning and application-based learning among students. The strong turnout from all eight zones underlined the emphasis placed by schools on academic competitions as part of co-curricular development under the Samagra Shiksha framework.
The event was attended by senior officials from the education department. The State Project Officer of Samagra Shiksha UT Mission Authority addressed the participants during the programme, urging students to recognise their individual strengths and nurture their talents through sustained learning. Emphasis was laid on curiosity-driven education, disciplined study routines and the need for students to balance the use of digital devices with academic and creative pursuits. The address focused on long-term learning habits rather than competitive outcomes alone, aligning with broader educational goals of holistic development.
According to the results announced at the conclusion of the quiz, Wimberlygunj Zone secured the first position at the senior secondary level, followed by Rangat Zone in second place and South Andaman Zone in third. At the secondary level, South Andaman Zone emerged first, with Diglipur Zone and Little Andaman Zone securing the second and third positions respectively. In the upper primary category, Rangat Zone claimed the top position, followed by Mayabunder Zone in second place and Diglipur Zone in third.
Education officials noted that the distribution of winning zones across categories reflected balanced academic performance among schools from different regions, rather than dominance by any single zone. The results were seen as indicative of consistent efforts by teachers and students alike in strengthening foundational learning in science and mathematics.
Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winning teams and participants by the Deputy Director of Education (Science), marking the formal recognition of student achievement at the state level. The distribution ceremony underscored the role of academic competitions in motivating students and acknowledging scholastic effort beyond routine classroom assessment.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Science Supervisor from Shiksha Sadan, who acknowledged the support of participating schools, coordinators, evaluators and officials involved in organising the event. Officials from the Directorate of Education said such competitions would continue to be an integral part of the academic calendar, aimed at fostering scientific temper and mathematical thinking among students across the islands.
