Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 24: Commuters in Sri Vijaya Puram will face temporary traffic restrictions from today after the District Magistrate, South Andaman, ordered the closure of a key road stretch to facilitate practical training for the Tactical Driving Course (TDC) conducted by the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn), Andaman and Nicobar Police.
The order, issued under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, read with the Andaman and Nicobar Administration’s notification dated March 10, 2008, provides for the temporary closure of the road stretch between Girls School Traffic Point and Dharamshala Junction/Traffic Point.
According to the notification, the road will remain closed to all vehicular traffic from today until August 28, 2026, during two specified time slots each day, from 8.30 a.m. to 12 noon and 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The temporary restriction has been imposed to enable the safe conduct of practical sessions of the Tactical Driving Course being organised by the IRBn. Authorities stated that restricting public vehicular movement during the scheduled hours is necessary to ensure that the training exercises are carried out safely.
The closure applies only to the notified road section and only during the prescribed hours. Outside the notified timings, the order does not specify any restrictions on vehicular movement along the affected stretch.
Traffic diversions will be managed through alternate routes as directed by the Traffic Police. Motorists travelling through the area during the notified hours have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow traffic instructions issued on the ground.
The District Magistrate issued the notification by exercising powers conferred under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, in conjunction with the Administration’s notification of March 10, 2008.
The temporary traffic arrangement is intended to facilitate the scheduled training programme while minimising safety risks associated with the movement of training vehicles and regular public traffic on the same stretch of road.
Authorities have appealed to residents, commuters and motorists to cooperate with the temporary traffic restrictions and use the alternative routes identified by the Traffic Police until the training programme concludes on August 28.
