South Andaman Launches Special Courts to Address 200 Long-Pending Revenue Cases

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 22: Around 200 applications for name correction in revenue records, pending since 2021, have prompted the South Andaman district administration to initiate special measures for expedited disposal, officials said.

The pendency, identified during a review by the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, has raised concerns over delays in public service delivery and grievance redressal. In response, the administration has scheduled Special Revenue Camp Courts to address the backlog in a time-bound manner.

According to the official plan, the Camp Courts will be conducted in two phases: from April 22 to 24 starting at 4 pm, and on April 29 and 30 from 9 am onwards. Authorities stated that approximately 40 cases will be taken up each day to ensure systematic and efficient hearings.

Officials said concerned applicants will be informed in advance through telephonic communication. In addition, formal notices will be issued by the Reader Section of the District Office, South Andaman, to ensure that all parties are present during the hearings.

The initiative forms part of the administration’s efforts to improve service delivery under the SMART governance framework, which emphasises Simple, Moral, Accountable, Responsive and Transparent functioning. Authorities indicated that the move is aimed at ensuring timely resolution of long-pending cases and strengthening public trust in administrative processes.

All stakeholders have been requested to cooperate with officials to facilitate the smooth conduct of the Camp Courts and ensure effective case disposal within the scheduled timelines.

Alongside this initiative, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has also rolled out multiple online services to enhance accessibility, promote ease of doing business, and reduce procedural delays. Officials said these steps are intended to ensure a transparent and corruption-free system for citizens seeking government services.

To address complaints and grievances, the administration has provided multiple channels for public access. Citizens can report issues, including corruption-related complaints, through the District Control Room via toll-free number 1077 or by email at dcandaman2016@gmail.com.

Further, the public has been encouraged to directly approach the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman for grievance redressal between 3 pm and 4 pm on all working days. Officials said this provision is meant to ensure direct interaction between citizens and the administration, enabling quicker resolution of concerns.

Authorities reiterated that the special Camp Courts are a focused attempt to reduce pendency and improve efficiency in handling revenue-related matters. The initiative is expected to streamline processes and ensure that cases pending for several years are addressed without further delay.
