Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 11: South Andaman District Police conducted a drug-awareness programme for students and teachers at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Aberdeen Bazar, on September 10 as part of its campaign under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
The programme was held at a school with approximately 2,000 students and focused on the health, family and social consequences of drug abuse, along with the legal implications of offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO, Police Station Aberdeen, led the police team during the session along with SI Dinesh Kr. Jaiswal, HCs Mohd. Rafique and Mamta Paul, and PC Roja. The officers addressed students and teachers during the morning prayer and held an interactive awareness session on the risks associated with drug abuse.
The police team explained the potential long-term consequences of drug addiction and urged students to maintain a healthy lifestyle and remain away from drugs. Students participated in the interaction and raised queries, which the police personnel addressed during the programme.
The session concluded with students and teachers taking the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge. Through the pledge, they resolved to stay away from drugs and contribute to efforts aimed at creating a drug-free society.
As part of the wider awareness drive, South Andaman District Police has also appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing credible information related to drugs with the police.
