Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), April 9: The Revenue Department of South Andaman conducted an eviction drive at Naushad Colony in Bathubasti under Garacharma village on Thursday, removing fresh encroachments from Government land and restoring approximately 500 square metres to official records.
Officials identified unauthorized occupation during an inspection, detecting two temporary structures and a fencing raised on public land without approval. Acting immediately, the department initiated a clearance operation, deploying manpower and machinery to reclaim the encroached area.
The eviction team used earth-moving equipment, including a Hitachi unit, to dismantle the illegal structures. The operation resulted in the complete removal of the encroachments, with the land subsequently brought back under the Government khata. Authorities confirmed that the drive proceeded without disruption and maintained order throughout the process.
The action forms part of an ongoing effort by the District Administration of South Andaman to prevent illegal occupation of Government land. Officials stated that such operations aim to protect public assets and ensure that land recorded under Government ownership remains free from unauthorized use.
The Administration reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against encroachments, emphasizing that any attempt to occupy public land unlawfully will attract enforcement action. It called on residents to avoid illegal occupation and cooperate with authorities in preserving public property.
Authorities also urged citizens to report any instances of encroachment or suspicious activity related to Government land. Complaints and information can be shared with the District Control Room through the helpline numbers 03192-240127, 238881, 1070, and 9531888844 via WhatsApp. Officials assured that the identity of informants will remain confidential to ensure their protection.
The Administration maintained that public participation remains crucial in monitoring and preventing encroachments. It stated that timely information from residents can assist in swift intervention and help authorities take corrective measures before illegal occupation expands.
The eviction at Naushad Colony reflects a continued administrative push to enforce land regulations and maintain the integrity of Government land records. Officials indicated that similar inspections and actions will continue across South Andaman as part of routine monitoring and enforcement measures.
