South Andaman Administration Reclaims Government Land in Calicut Eviction Drive

The District Administration of South Andaman has intensified its ongoing encroachment eviction drive as part of efforts to reclaim and safeguard public assets, officials said. The coordinated operation is aimed at restoring government land to its designated use and preventing unauthorised occupation of public property.

In the latest phase of the drive, an unauthorised residential RCC structure that was under construction, along with fencing erected on government revenue land at Calicut village, was demolished. Following the action, approximately 700 square metres of government revenue land was reclaimed and restored to the Government Khata by revenue field staff.

Officials said the eviction was carried out after due verification and forms part of a larger, district-wide initiative to address illegal encroachments on public land. The administration reiterated that such actions are being undertaken to uphold land regulations and ensure that public spaces remain protected from unauthorised use.

The District Administration emphasised that the drive reflects its continued zero-tolerance approach toward encroachment of government land. Authorities stated that reclaiming encroached land is essential to preserve public resources and maintain the integrity of government-owned property.

Residents have been urged to refrain from occupying government land illegally and to cooperate with officials in protecting public assets. The administration noted that public cooperation is vital in ensuring the effective enforcement of land laws and preventing future encroachments.

To encourage public participation, the District Administration has invited citizens to report cases of illegal occupation or encroachment. Members of the public can contact the District Control Room at 03192-240127, 03192-238881, 1070, or 9531888844 (WhatsApp) to share information or lodge complaints related to encroachments.

Officials assured that the identity of individuals providing information will be kept confidential to protect them from any potential repercussions. The administration stated that maintaining confidentiality is intended to encourage citizens to come forward without hesitation.

The eviction drive is part of a sustained administrative effort to monitor government land across South Andaman and take timely action wherever unauthorised construction or occupation is detected. Authorities indicated that similar operations may continue in other areas based on field reports and public inputs.

The District Administration reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing land laws and ensuring that government land is used strictly for public purposes, stating that safeguarding public property remains a priority in the district’s governance framework.
