Sri Vijaya Puram, July 30: The South Andaman District Administration has removed fresh encroachments from nearly 50,000 square metres of government land in Mathura Village under Ferrargunj Tehsil, reclaiming public land earmarked for grazing and recreational purposes. The action followed the detection of unauthorised occupation during an official inspection and underscores the Administration’s continuing efforts to protect public land from illegal encroachment.
According to the District Administration, Revenue authorities recently carried out an inspection in Mathura Village with the assistance of line departments, police authorities and the active support of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). During the inspection, officials identified fresh encroachments on approximately 40,000 square metres of government grazing land and another 10,000 square metres of land reserved as a playground.
The Administration stated that the encroachments had been carried out by erecting railings and planting saplings without authorisation. Following the inspection, Revenue authorities initiated an eviction drive to remove the unauthorised occupation.
Officials subsequently cleared the encroachments and restored the government land to its original status. The eviction operation was conducted in accordance with legal procedures and completed peacefully, according to the Administration.
The reclaimed land includes areas designated for public use, including grazing land and a playground. The Administration said the action was undertaken to ensure that government land remains available for the purposes for which it has been reserved.
Following the eviction, the District Administration reiterated its stated zero-tolerance policy against encroachments on government land. It warned that any individual or entity found encroaching upon public land, or assisting such activities, would face action under the applicable provisions of law. It also stated that attempts to bypass legal procedures would invite strict action.
The Administration urged residents to comply with legal provisions governing land ownership and land use. It also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any instances of illegal occupation or encroachment on government land.
