Driver Traced in Sippighat Hit-and-Run Case Within 36 Hours

Police have identified and arrested a 24-year-old private driver in connection with a hit-and-run accident reported near Kalapathar area in Sippighat on May 11. Following information received from PHC Garacharma, a case was registered and an investigation was launched using technical analysis and coordination with transport authorities. The suspected vehicle was traced, seized and the accused driver apprehended after completion of legal formalities.

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 14: A 24 year old private driver was apprehended in connection with a hit-and-run accident reported near the Kalapathar area of Sippighat in South Andaman.

The information regarding the road accident was received from PHC Garacharma on May 11, following which a case was registered at Police Station Humfrygunj.

After registration of the case, a police team was formed to trace the vehicle and driver allegedly involved in the incident.

The investigation team included Sub-Inspector Gaurav Banerjee, SHO of Police Station Humfrygunj, Sub-Inspector Ajitabh Kumar Das, ASI Amal Kumar Das, Head Constable Arul, Home Guard (Radio) K. Balakrishna, Home Guard Volunteer Benher, A. Christopher and Jerome.

Officials stated that the investigation involved technical analysis, location-based service (LBS) analysis and coordination with the Transport Department Control Room to identify the suspected vehicle.

Based on the information gathered during the investigation, the suspected vehicle and its driver were traced within around 36 hours of the incident.

Police identified the accused as Raj Kishan, son of Late Prem Kishan, a resident of Pathargudda and employed as a private driver.

Officials said the police team reached the location, seized the suspected vehicle and apprehended the accused after completing the required legal formalities.

Further investigation into the case is currently in progress.

Police have appealed to the public to share information related to crimes or illegal activities through emergency helpline number 112 or by contacting local police control room numbers 03192-232100 and 03192-236641.

Authorities stated that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
