Sri Vijaya Puram, June 26: In a move aimed at strengthening monsoon disaster preparedness, SAHYOG (NGO) donated 290 raincoats to the South Andaman District Administration to support Civil Defence Volunteers and revenue field staff engaged in emergency response and public service during the rainy season.
The raincoats were handed over by Pt. Gyan Prakash Mishra, President of SAHYOG (NGO), to Purva Garg, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, during a programme held at the Conference Hall of the District Office.
According to the District Administration, the donated raincoats will be distributed among Civil Defence Volunteers (CDVs) and personnel serving in 28 Patwari Circles across the three tehsils of South Andaman District. The equipment is intended to assist frontline workers carrying out duties during adverse weather conditions throughout the ongoing monsoon.
Civil Defence Volunteers play an important role in supporting the District Administration during emergencies by assisting in disaster management, rescue operations, relief activities and various community outreach programmes. The raincoats are expected to improve their operational readiness while working in challenging weather conditions.
Speaking during the programme, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated SAHYOG’s contribution and acknowledged the organisation’s continued support for community welfare initiatives. She stated that the donated raincoats would strengthen the capacity of Civil Defence Volunteers to perform their responsibilities effectively during the monsoon season.
The District Administration noted that Civil Defence Volunteers serve as a crucial support system during emergencies and work alongside government agencies in responding to natural disasters and other public emergencies. It emphasized that strengthening the preparedness of these volunteers remains an important component of disaster management in the district.
Officials also highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts between voluntary organisations and the administration in enhancing public safety and improving disaster response mechanisms. According to the administration, such partnerships contribute significantly to strengthening local resilience and ensuring timely assistance during emergencies.
The initiative reflects continued cooperation between civil society organisations and the District Administration in supporting preparedness measures ahead of and during the monsoon season.
The District Administration acknowledged SAHYOG’s contribution and reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with voluntary organisations to enhance disaster preparedness, support frontline personnel and promote the welfare and well-being of communities across South Andaman.
