Rowing Trials Open for Island’s Young Water Champs

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 22: The Sports Authority of India (SAI), STC Sri Vijaya Puram is inviting students aged 10 to 14 to try their luck, and strength, at rowing and watersports. The residential scheme’s selection trials will take place from April 23 to 30 across five schools in Sri Vijaya Puram.

The trial schedule begins with St. Mary’s School in Bathubasti on April 23-24, followed by GSS Bathubasti on April 25, GSS Garacharma on April 28, Vitala Public School Bambooflat on April 29, and GSS Bambooflat on April 30.

The initiative aims to tap into the region’s aquatic talent, with a special preference for young swimmers who have previously shown sporting prowess. “Watersports are Andaman’s natural strength. We’re looking to nurture raw potential into national-level excellence,” said a senior coach.

Selection will be conducted through a series of physical tests. Aspirants must bring their Birth Certificate, Aadhaar card, sports achievement certificates, and four passport-size photographs.

For further queries, applicants may reach out via email at saiandaman88@gmail.com or connect with the coaching team through Instagram (@sai.andaman). Assistant coaches including  Manish Kumar Tiwari (Rowing),  Justin J Thomas (Rowing), and  Karma Toppo (Kayaking & Canoeing) are also available for guidance.

The trials are part of SAI’s broader goal to discover, train and transform young talent into future Olympians, right from the grassroots level of the islands.
