Mass Rope Skipping Event Empowers 850+ Schoolgirls in A&N Under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

Date:

A high-energy rope skipping demonstration turned Marina Park Road into a hub of athleticism as over 850 schoolgirls from the Sri Vijaya Puram region showcased their skills. Organized by the Deputy Education Office, South Andaman, the event was part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme and focused on encouraging sports participation among girl students.

Participants from various schools exhibited synchronized performances and team coordination, turning the demonstration into a celebration of unity and physical endurance. Notably, children with special needs also took part, reinforcing the message of inclusion and equal opportunity.

The presence of top officials from the education and police departments marked the importance of the initiative. The Inspector General of Police addressed the gathering and emphasized the role of sports, education, and self-defense in empowering young girls. Plans for a self-defense training program specifically targeting female students were also announced.

The event drew widespread appreciation from parents, educators, and the general public for its focus on holistic development, gender equality, and physical well-being. Three women athletes who have brought laurels to the Islands at national and international levels were felicitated. Their achievements served as real-time inspiration for the young crowd and underscored the possibilities that lie ahead for girls in sports.

The Education Department is aiming to popularize rope skipping across the Islands, especially in light of the region’s unpredictable weather that often hampers outdoor sports. Given its minimal infrastructure requirements, rope skipping was highlighted as an ideal indoor alternative to keep students active throughout the year.

The event was not only a celebration but also a demonstration of administrative commitment to girl child empowerment. With sports being a proven catalyst for confidence and discipline, such events are intended to create a ripple effect across educational institutions.

Beyond the immediate spectacle, the initiative aligns with long-term goals of fostering an inclusive, fitness-conscious culture among students. The successful execution of this mass-scale demonstration could pave the way for similar programs in remote and underserved areas of the Islands.

As the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme continues to evolve locally, the rope skipping demonstration stands out as a model for integrating physical education with broader social messaging.
