Three renovated Cement Concrete (CC) roads in Manglutan-III and Guptapara-I under Panchayat Samiti Ferrargunj and Gram Panchayat Guptapara were inaugurated on 12 November 2025, marking an upgrade to rural connectivity infrastructure in South Andaman. The inauguration was carried out by Adhyaksh of Zilla Parishad South Andaman, Prakash Adhikari, in the presence of panchayat representatives, engineering officials and residents.
The event recorded the participation of Pramukh D. Padmawati of Panchayat Samiti Ferrargunj, Executive Engineer PRI (South Andaman) Rajeev Sharma, Up-Pramukh Simson of Panchayat Samiti Ferrargunj, BDO Ferrargunj Lalita Tigga, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Guptapara Durlab Das, and Panchayat Samiti Member Nirmal Sarkar representing Guptapara and Humfrygunj. Members of other elected PRI bodies and local citizens were also present.
The renovated CC roads are part of ongoing rural development works aimed at improving surface quality and connectivity in areas where road conditions have posed mobility challenges. Officials stated that the upgraded stretches are expected to improve daily commuting for residents and ensure better access to essential services, given the dependence of the rural population on these internal routes.
During the programme, Adhikari spoke about the need to finish all ongoing development projects within the limited fair-weather window available in the islands. He stressed the importance of ensuring that each project adheres strictly to the technical specifications approved for rural road construction. According to him, compliance with engineering standards is vital to extending the durability and usability of CC roads, particularly in terrain affected by heavy rainfall and erosion.
Engineering officials present at the inauguration noted that the renovated stretches align with the wider objective of strengthening core rural infrastructure within the Ferrargunj region. They added that the road improvements were undertaken to address the deterioration observed in recent years and to support safer and more reliable transportation for residents of Manglutan-III and Guptapara-I.
PRI members at the venue highlighted the significance of maintaining quality checks during execution and ensuring regular monitoring of ongoing construction works. They stated that adhering to required specifications is essential not only for longevity but also for reducing future maintenance burdens on local bodies.
Residents from the two localities, who joined the event in large numbers, acknowledged that improved road conditions are expected to ease difficulties faced during daily travel, especially for school-going children, elderly citizens, and workers commuting to nearby settlements.
The inauguration of the renovated CC roads signals continued progress in strengthening rural infrastructure across South Andaman. Officials indicated that additional road development and repair activities are planned under various panchayats to improve connectivity and enhance civic amenities in underserved pockets of the district.
