POCSO Awareness Drive in Ramnagar Focuses on Child Safety and Drug Abuse Prevention

Date:

Ramnagar, June 18: Strengthening awareness on child protection and the prevention of offences against minors was the focus of a community outreach programme conducted at Gram Panchayat Ramnagar, where women residents were sensitised about the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and the importance of reporting crimes against children.

The awareness programme was organised on June 17 with the objective of informing housewives, mothers and other women residents of Ramnagar village about legal safeguards available for children and the role of the community in ensuring their safety. More than 60 women participated in the programme.

During the session, participants received detailed information on various provisions of the POCSO Act, including the definition of offences covered under the legislation, procedures for reporting incidents and the legal consequences faced by offenders. The programme focused on enhancing public understanding of the law and encouraging timely reporting of cases involving children.

Participants were urged to remain vigilant and immediately inform the police or other competent authorities if they become aware of any incident or suspected offence involving a child. Organisers stressed the importance of community participation in protecting children and ensuring that cases of abuse are reported without delay.

The programme also addressed concerns relating to drug abuse and substance addiction among young people. Women attending the event were advised to educate and guide their children about the harmful effects of substance abuse on health, education and future opportunities. The discussion highlighted the need for parental awareness and active involvement in preventing addiction-related issues among children and adolescents.

An interactive session formed a key part of the programme, providing participants with an opportunity to discuss issues related to child safety and substance abuse prevention. Women shared their concerns, exchanged views and sought clarification on various aspects of the POCSO Act and measures aimed at safeguarding children.

The interaction enabled participants to better understand the mechanisms available for protecting children and addressing concerns within their communities. Discussions also focused on the importance of awareness, early intervention and responsible reporting in preventing offences against minors.

The programme concluded with active participation from the women of Ramnagar village, reflecting community interest in child protection, legal awareness and efforts to address challenges related to drug abuse and substance addiction. The initiative aimed to strengthen public understanding of child safety laws and encourage greater vigilance at the community level.
