Andaman & Nicobar to Host First-Ever Inclusive Purple Fair 2026 for Divyangjan

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are set to host the first-ever inclusive Purple Fair 2026, organised by the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC), under the administrative control of the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

Scheduled this month across multiple locations in the islands, Purple Fair 2026 aims to provide a platform for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) to showcase their abilities, aspirations, and achievements while promoting dignity, equal participation, and social inclusion. The event is being conducted in collaboration with the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Social Welfare Department, and Education Department, marking a significant step in inclusive initiatives for the region.

A key feature of the fair is the Pre-Sports Events, planned for 16th and 17th January, 2026, at Netaji Stadium, Sri Vijaya Puram. These events are organised in partnership with the Department of Physical Education, Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM), and will provide a safe and structured environment for Divyangjan to participate in sports activities. The programme aims to foster physical fitness, confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship among participants while encouraging inclusive community engagement.

Purple Fair 2026 will also host a range of cultural programmes, awareness initiatives, service facilitation, and community activities to engage both participants and the wider public. Organisers have emphasised that the fair is designed not only to celebrate the skills and achievements of persons with disabilities but also to enhance public awareness and sensitivity towards social inclusion.

For the first time in the islands, such a comprehensive fair is being conducted at a large scale, underlining the administration’s commitment to the empowerment of Divyangjan. The fair is expected to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and collaboration between governmental bodies, educational institutions, and community stakeholders, ensuring smooth conduct of all planned activities.

Authorities have encouraged Divyangjan across the islands to participate in the sports and cultural activities, and have made registration and queries available through the contact number 9632490149. Officials noted that all administrative permissions and support measures have been put in place to facilitate participation and ensure safety and accessibility.

Purple Fair 2026 represents a milestone in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands’ efforts to create an inclusive environment where persons with disabilities are provided equal opportunities to engage in social, cultural, and physical activities. The initiative aligns with national objectives of promoting empowerment, equality, and dignity for all citizens.

With the launch of this inclusive fair, the islands are set to showcase the talents and achievements of Divyangjan, fostering awareness, participation, and community engagement across the region.
