Prakash Adhikari Elected Zilla Parishad Chief in South Andaman

Date:

The political landscape of South Andaman saw a key development as Prakash Adhikari and Boominathan, both members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), were elected Adhyaksh and Up-Adhyaksh of the Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, respectively, for the fourth year of the 2022–2027 tenure.

The election was held during a special meeting convened on May 8 at the Zilla Parishad Conference Hall in South Andaman. The proceedings were overseen by Deputy Commissioner Arjun Sharma, with all 18 elected members of the Zilla Parishad actively participating and casting their votes. The election was conducted smoothly, adhering to the prescribed norms and procedures.

Prakash Adhikari, representing the Guptapara constituency, secured the top post of Adhyaksh, while Boominathan, from Beodnabad constituency, was elected as the Up-Adhyaksh. Following the vote count, certificates of election were formally handed over, officially recognizing their appointments.

The oath-taking ceremony for both leaders is scheduled for May 11 at the Zilla Parishad Conference Hall, marking the formal start of their leadership tenure.

The Zilla Parishad plays a pivotal role in shaping grassroots governance and driving development across South Andaman’s rural regions. From infrastructure projects and sanitation to health, education, and livelihood initiatives, the elected leadership will steer key decision-making processes that directly impact residents’ lives.

With BJP leaders now at the helm, local governance is expected to align closely with the party’s development-focused agenda. However, the Parishad’s effectiveness will depend on its ability to address critical challenges, including improving connectivity, enhancing public services, and responding to the needs of remote communities.

The smooth conduct of the election also underscored the maturity of the region’s local governance framework, reflecting a healthy democratic process at the grassroots level.
