Andaman Police to Conduct Firing Practice; Residents Advised to Stay Clear

Police in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will conduct live firing practice for new recruits across four dates this month, prompting authorities to issue a public safety advisory. According to a notification issued under Section 10(2) of the Manoeuvres, Field Firing and Artillery Practice Act, 1938, the drills will be carried out at the Police Firing Range in Prothrapur on June 6, 7, 21, and 22 from 5:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Residents of Birdline, Prothrapur, and surrounding areas have been strictly advised to stay clear of the firing range during the designated hours. Public movement—including that of individuals, vehicles, and cattle—will be prohibited in the vicinity to ensure safety.

The exercise is part of the standard training for the 75th batch of constable recruits of the Andaman and Nicobar Police. Such drills are typically held to familiarize trainees with firearms handling and live ammunition use under controlled conditions.

With the proximity of residential areas near the Prothrapur range, public advisories are routinely issued during such drills. The administration has reiterated the importance of following the safety instructions to avoid any untoward incidents.

No alternate route or relocation advisory has been issued, suggesting the range’s operations will remain confined to its designated premises. However, authorities emphasized that vigilance among local residents will be key to maintaining a safe environment during the firing sessions.
