Farmers Across Islands Set to Join PM-KISAN 23rd Installment Programme

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 19: Farmers across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are set to participate in PM-KISAN Utsav Diwas on June 20 as the Government of India releases the 23rd installment of benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, a flagship income support programme for eligible farmer families.

The installment for the period from April 2026 to July 2026 will be released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Tarakeswar in Hooghly district of West Bengal. The event will be observed across the Islands through a series of outreach and awareness programmes aimed at strengthening engagement with the farming community.

PM-KISAN, launched by the Government of India in February 2019, provides financial assistance of Rs. 6,000 annually to eligible landholding farmer families. The assistance is transferred directly into Aadhaar-linked and Direct Benefit Transfer-enabled bank accounts of beneficiaries.

According to official figures, farmers in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have received more than Rs. 64.48 crore under the scheme since its launch. The amount has been disbursed through 22 installments, providing income support to eligible beneficiaries across the Union Territory.

To mark the release of the latest installment, June 20 will be observed as PM-KISAN Utsav Diwas in coordination with ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs). The observance is intended to increase awareness about the scheme and facilitate wider participation among farmers and agricultural stakeholders.

Programmes will be conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendras, block-level centres and Gram Panchayats across the Islands. Farmers, Panchayati Raj Institutions, Primary Agricultural Credit Societies and field-level functionaries are expected to take part in the activities planned for the occasion.

The events will focus on outreach and awareness regarding the benefits and implementation of the PM-KISAN scheme. Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen communication with beneficiaries and encourage participation in government-supported agricultural welfare programmes.

As part of the observance, farmers will also watch the live telecast of the Prime Minister’s programme from Tarakeswar, Hooghly. The webcast will be available from 3.45 p.m. onwards, enabling beneficiaries and stakeholders across the Islands to join the national event simultaneously.

The PM-KISAN scheme remains one of the Centre’s key farmer welfare initiatives, providing direct income support to eligible farming families and ensuring financial assistance reaches beneficiaries through the DBT mechanism.
